Sports Premium

What is Sports Premium?

The Primary PE and Sport Premium is funding provided by the government to improve the quality of physical education, physical activity and sport in primary schools.

The funding is designed to help schools build sustainable improvements in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles, positive attitudes towards physical activity and opportunities to participate in competitive sport.

At Brierley Hill Primary School, we recognise the important role that physical education plays in supporting pupils’ physical health, wellbeing and personal development. A high-quality PE curriculum helps pupils develop confidence, teamwork and resilience, while encouraging active and healthy lifestyles.

We are committed to providing a broad, inclusive and engaging PE curriculum that encourages all pupils to participate in regular physical activity and develop a lifelong enjoyment of sport.

We are proud to have achieved the School Games Gold Award, recognising the school’s commitment to promoting sport, physical activity and competitive opportunities for pupils.

Use of the Funding

The PE and Sport Premium is ring-fenced funding, meaning it can only be used to improve the provision of physical education, physical activity and sport within the school.

Schools have flexibility in how this funding is used. However, we are required to publish information about:

• the amount of funding the school receives
• how the funding is spent
• the impact of this spending on pupils’ participation and attainment in PE
• how improvements will be sustained in the future

Full details of how Brierley Hill Primary School uses the PE and Sport Premium funding, including the impact on pupils and participation in sport, can be found in the report below.
