Safeguarding

Safeguarding at Brierley Hill Primary School

At Brierley Hill Primary School, the safety and wellbeing of our pupils is our highest priority. We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of every child and ensuring that pupils feel safe, supported and valued.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We maintain a strong safeguarding culture where the interests of children always come first and where all members of the school community understand their role in keeping children safe.

We have robust procedures and systems in place to protect pupils and to ensure that any concerns about a child’s welfare are identified and acted upon quickly.

Our Commitment to Safeguarding

As education professionals, we work closely with children every day. This places us in a key position to identify concerns and provide support where needed.

Staff are trained to:

• recognise signs of abuse or neglect
• identify changes in behaviour or wellbeing
• respond quickly and appropriately to safeguarding concerns

All staff receive regular safeguarding training and follow clear procedures for reporting concerns. Safeguarding responsibilities extend to staff, governors, volunteers and visitors, and everyone is expected to uphold the highest standards of safeguarding practice.

Operation Encompass

Brierley Hill Primary School participates in Operation Encompass, a partnership between schools and the police which supports children who may have been affected by domestic abuse.

Through this initiative, trained safeguarding leads are informed when a child has been involved in or exposed to a domestic incident. This allows the school to provide timely support and care for pupils who may be experiencing emotional distress.

Early Help

Sometimes children and families may need additional support. Early Help provides support as soon as concerns begin to emerge, helping families access the right services at the right time.

At Brierley Hill Primary School, we work closely with families and external agencies to provide early support where needed. If you would like advice or support, please contact Mrs Duffin (DSL) who can guide you through the Early Help process.

Online Safety

Online safety is an important part of safeguarding. We teach pupils how to use the internet and digital technologies safely and responsibly.

Through our curriculum, pupils learn how to:

• protect their personal information
• recognise online risks
• use technology responsibly

We also work with parents and carers to support children in developing safe digital habits both at home and at school.
